Lank - Songs For The News Feed (Remixed)

Proton Music
03.12.2013. Tuesday
Accompanied by striking concordant artwork from Proton creative director, Ben Mautner, Lank and his "Songs For The News Feed" immediately hit the headlines in the summer of 2012. Fast forward a year and, as the newly formed Konstrukt imprint continues to grab the front pages of Beatport, its talented co-founders take up the reins as Proton Music proudly announces "Songs For The News Feed Remixed" with contributions from DNYO and Tim Penner.
Brazilian Danny Oliveira is a rapidly rising force in the constantly evolving modern music industry. Under the production pseudonym, DNYO, a career that has produced music for the "Adidas  10 Brazil vs Argentina" ad campaign during the 2006 World Cup, blossomed as DNYO achieved success as a finalist in the Sasha "Cut Me Down" remix competition. The resulting remix for Last Night On Earth then hit the Beatport Top 100 Electronica chart, followed by a Progressive House Top 100 hit with the "Aquatika" EP released on the renowned microCastle imprint. DJ residencies in his Sao Paolo hometown plus support from the global elite including Hernan Cattaneo and Barry Jamieson, has seen DNYO's star rise higher in the underground EDM firmament.
Both the "Echo" and "Future Blending" EPs have confirmed DNYO's rising status among the Proton Music ranks as he now returns to take on Lank's "Likewise Flowing". A rat-a-tat percussive section opens proceedings before a thudding kick drum brings metronomic force. Cleverly extracting components from the original mix, a colossal bass line rides beneath a textured morass of white noise and pitched effects as an arpeggiated melody emerges from the aural soup before being sucked back once more into the all-encompassing bass line. Epic stuff.
From Southern Ontario, Canadian Tim Penner prides himself upon the guiding principles of "creativity, originality and experimentation", both in production and live performance. Sceptical of boundaries and classification, Penner's eclectic blend of influences has produced a rich and distinctive sound that has seen his work much sought after. Former resident of Toronto's "Viva" nightclub and supported by the trance elite of Marcus Schossow, John O'Callaghan and Armin Van Buuren, 2011 saw a foray into a deeper, more considered approach to his music. Work for Replug, Stripped, plus Oliveira and Penner's own Konstrukt imprint, has seen subsequent support from all corners of the globe and much critical acclaim.
The forthcoming explosive "Pyrogen" EP stamps further authority on Tim Penner's Proton Music career on the back of two remixes of Nick Stoynoff and Apologist in the earlier part of 2013. Tackling Lank's "Weirdo", a trademark collage of unique soundscape textures punctuate an intriguing rhythm section programmed with consummate skill. Simultaneously a stepped bass line emerges in techno fashion against crashing snares and a glitched vocal snippet referencing the title itself. Swelling to a rousing crescendo, Penner's remix is an impressive study in pushing musical boundaries.
Two new remixes from DNYO and Tim Penner has ensured that Lank is likely to provide headlines 'for the news feed' for some time to come.
